Photographer's Bio.

I found my love for Photography on a family holiday to Barcelona. Using a SLR camera I took photographs of the landscape and architecture. I remember the anticipation before getting the films back and having tangible memories of the experience.
Since then I have submerged myself in landscape photography and the natural artistry of the world. Using the medium I try to create a visual diary of the banal but quirky aspects of life.
My chosen format is 35mm, I believe it is a lost art and has a more organic quality that oozes sincerity in its grain and chemicals.

Mercedes Jacques.

My name is Heather Parris my work is influenced by dark, gothic imagery especially if the images tell a story. I am a very creative person, not only within myself but my work too! Photography is another art form to me; you can be as creative as possible with a camera as long as you have the ideas!
My work is inspired by personal feelings with animals. Things happen in the world that people are very unaware of, even unthinkable to exist. I want to show this in role reversal. Beautiful animals are murdered and tortured for things they naturally own for mainly fur clothing and products to go in Chinese remedies. This body of work shows the animal in the winning position that the human normally is in. putting the person in the animals place puts across the idea of how horrible it is for these animals along with making aware to people what happens in the world that people don’t know about.

As a Photography/Video student I have been studying photography both digital and traditional film printing for the past 8 years.  During my first year at University I carried out a module based round filming and editing, of well established television programs.  Following this module I expanded on my photography course and included video production as an additional area of study.  I have been lucky enough to be taken on as a camera assistant by a Manchester based company, Vision Four Video.  Whilst working as an assistant to the owner, I have gained vital experience to work within this field as well as having the opportunity to show my skills as a second camera.

My exhibition piece Speedek Services is a business advertisement commissioned by the Electrical Company themselves, with a view to develop their business by means of web based advertisements.  As a photography student I enjoy photographing interiors as well as portraiture, and have worked under a number of large organisations both in England and abroad as a photographer.  My ambitions are to establish my own photography business within the next year and compete alongside the seasonal professionals.

Born and raised in North West England, Sarah Greenwood is currently nearing the end of a Photography degree. Sarah became fascinated with photography through an art design course, with the original intention of going into fine and modern art. Using cameras to capture ideas for the course, her interest grew from there.  She has experience in portrait, wedding and studio photography and recently completed her first photographic documentary featuring members of Bolton's largest motorbike club, which is on it's way to becoming her first themed book.  Her preferred styles are portraiture and creative photography, and Sarah believes that to really take a timeless portrait, you need to get to know the person or people you are capturing, making the shoot in itself a truly unique and personal experience, not only for the subject, but for the photographer too.
In the New Vision exhibition Sarah’s work, created through the alternative technique of painting with light, displays five images from this experimental process, which resulted in unpredictable and truly unique work

My name is Gemma Elizabeth Gowans. I am from Manchester. Photography, art, nature, animals, fashion, is what inspires me. I like working with the large format camera and creating anti advertisement images, such as anti fur, anti testing on animals, anti drugs, anti smoking and also other issue based work such as driving safety, Drinking awareness. The work I am exhibiting is on domestic violence, which is making people aware it is happening, and what to do about it. I like issue based photography because it can make a change to the world, animals, nature, environment and people.  xxxxxx

For me photography is about the concept, the reasoning behind the image is far more important than the aesthetic value. All my work has a reason, whether to inform, make a statement, discuss or argue, it always seeks to promote a reaction. This particular body of work looks at questioning the fashion industry's idealistic view of beauty, whilst taking inspiration from inspiration itself.

My work says a lot about me, it may not be the best technically correct, but are we really attracted to perfect things? Look at some of the greatest Artists/ photographers around. Our eyes are trained to see the imperfections. I am working forward to become a gallery curator, so I construct and consider everything around in the situation made.
We are critised everyday especially women on there bodies, work and home life, nothing we do is perfect. We are objectified, as much as we are critised, the women’s body is the heart of selling products. So my work will be transforming objects into women instead of the other way round.

Photography is a passion that has taken me to where I am in life as of now, it’s taken me half way across the country to where I reside now from where I grew up, where it takes me after I’m done here, I don’t know for sure, I hope it will take me good and better things. My name is John Lane, I’m studying photography at university and in my final year.  I don’t have a specific area of photography I specialize in, I enjoy most if not all genre’s of photography and all formats.  A lot of my works themes tend to be polar opposites from each other, I believe it gives me a scope of many different perspectives of different types of work.

My name is Tanya Smith. Photography has been a passion of mine since my last few years of secondary school. I had a fantastic art teacher who encouraged me to pursue my love for it and I haven’t looked back since. I have an interest in all photography genres, specifically music (live and studio), wildlife, landscape and portraiture.
For the New Vision exhibition I am creating a series of six portrait images called "Magic, Mischief and Mayhem". My images are based on the tricksters in different mythologies from around the world. Along with photography, history has always been something that has spiked my interest and this is where my initial idea for this exhibition came from. Contained in this idea was the concept of using a mask to hide who you are and the emotions you feel, Tricksters are known for using masks and changing into different shapes to disguise themselves so they can cause more mischief.

In life, we seek our own way; we are all in pursuit of happiness. We want to find something that's going to make us different from the others, make our life special. We want to find a sense of life and we are testing different things just to find something that will be most important for us.; something that helps us to spread our wings and let our dreams come true. One day I came to the point where I realized that something was wrong in my life; I wasn't doing what I wanted to do. I've realised what that is, that something that was so magical and amazing for a little girl can become a real thing for a mature woman; only then did I decided I needed to do this and take it seriously. I've realised that Photography can be more than just a passion and a dream; it can become my profession with skills for life.
Someone could ask why Photography? Photography is the medium, which allows us to show our own point of view, sometimes helps us to understand the world we live in and to discover something new about ourselves. Photography is like a passion, sometimes it is like a deeply concealed mystery, sometimes it gives us a chance to see what is invisible, hidden deep in our dreams. It is like desire; always bringing a joy. Photography as any other medium of art evokes emotions in us, asks questions and forces us to reflect on the world around us.
I believe that the photographs I will present in our exhibition will bring some joy and emotions but also cause our viewers to reflect.

My name is Anne Hainsworth.  Living on a small holding before university, I gained an interest in the idea of buying British, from meat to produce. This interest has led me onto the work I am exhibiting, where I have focused on the use of vegetables into human shaped forms, as it should be part of everyday life, and we should focus on 5 a Day (Government recommendation) The idea is to create a humour for viewers, but also to bring the idea of using 5 a day in everyday living, because of this I am exhibiting 5 images, with 5 different vegetables. Don’t forget! You are what you eat!

My name is Leanne Noble and I am currently in my final year of University. Before starting University I didn't know if I wanted to be an artist or a photographer, so I took a course in Art and Design hoping that it would help me decide. I decided, even though I still love creating art, that photography was a greater passion and meant I could be more social and work with a lot more people. Portraiture photography to me is about creating an image that makes the customer feel good about themselves, and I love the satisfaction you feel when you can please someone by doing a great job for them.
For the exhibition, New Vision, I wanted to create the impression of 1930's Hollywood Glamour, taking lighting styles and perspectives that photographers used back in that era. This work isn't like my usual work, but I wanted to push myself and get out of my comfort zone. To view my other work please go to http://www.wix.com/cheeky_lan/leannemariephotography

My name is Laura Lejina and I am a Latvian-born photographer, based in England, currently interested in children’s fashion photography.  I enjoy location and studio work and capturing different moods and expressions of my little models. I like the excitement that children bring to the shoot and no matter where I shoot I want to have fun with it and create relaxed, creative photographs.
My interest in photography began with the birth of my children and our first visit to a professional photo studio. I was so impressed with their work that I bought all the photographs, and realized the amazing work a photographer could accomplish with a camera.
My excitement in photography turned into a journey of self-directed studying, and I obtained my first photography books. I finally found something that really interests me and I entered University to further develop my practical knowledge about photography. I am constantly learning about art and photography and keep challenging myself to look forward and think outside the box. See my work at   http://www.flickriver.com/photos/laurakidsphotography/

My name is Jennifer Hampson. I have had an interest in photography since I was about 12 years old. I like all types of photography with wildlife and studio work being my favourite. In the studio I like to create the photograph, but create something unusual and different; for the exhibition I created advertising images that followed this.
When it comes to wildlife I could photograph any animal big or small even marine life which I have had chance to do, you can see the results at:

Ever since I can remember I have always been interested in photography.
I’ve been very curious about the world around me, and this (almost subconsciously) led to what I do now.
I always enjoyed looking at the magazines that my aunt used to bring from abroad, I loved playing with my dad’s camera and this finally resulted in taking my first black and white pictures of my friend.

I use photography as a form of self-expression and I make my pictures for everyone.
My choice of subject comes from many different places. I find my inspiration everywhere: music, books, films and every day life. I like to create stories that are not obvious at first.

I did not find photography; Photography found me. Since that moment I have become fascinated by the rhetoric of the image. Using my creativity to explore the human condition and the world around me, I continually find myself enthralled by the power of images and their ability to shape whatever consumes them.

My working preferences are towards the more traditional processes with a particular fondness of large format black and white photography. My work is deeply personal and is not driven by any commercial agenda but is created and delivered from the heart.

It's my world and you're welcome to it!

Mark Howard

Artist / Photographer

http://markhowardphotography.co.uk/

Ever since I was a little girl I have always been interested in art, I don’t consider myself a photographer I consider myself an artist. My camera is my canvas and the light I use to capture each image is my paintbrush. I get great pleasure out of creating and making bodies of work that push my creative boundaries. To me anything is possible, all you need is time and patience.

Artists to me used to be elite by their virtue of their artistic talent. However these days they have become elite through complex verbal displays and thought out artist’s statements, of their appreciation of art. In my opinion Art / photography should be about the art, the photographs, not the whys and for’s. Artistic people and photographic people who have true talent and manage to create a body of work that is aesthetically good should no longer go unrecognized. Hence why I wanted to create a body of work for this exhibition which illiterates my views and opinions further.

My name is Samantha Hart and I am originally from Haworth, West Yorkshire. Since I started learning photographic practise still life’s and miniatures have always been my ‘thing’. I have previously looked at many different aspects within this category but always seem to be drawn to the miniature figurines. I think my passion for working with miniature people comes from the perfection I want in my work, I am allowed to take my time and work until I get that photograph. For all these reasons I chose to continue this passion in to my exhibition work.
I aim for my photographs to make people smile. I want them to be remembered for their eye catching colours and the play they show between little and big objects and figures, making the viewer think twice.

My name is Rebecca Kirton and I am interested in portraiture and still life. I like creating images not just taking them. I want to create images that are different and not too conventional. I always work towards a high standard and can always improve. I want to go into journalism.

Determined, enthusiastic and extremely passionate about photography. Mark strives to reach the very highest standards in creative vision and in technical practice within fashion photography. He feels there has been a recent decline in beauty and elegance within fashion imagery, with to much focus being put on visually shocking or striking the viewer, Mark's aim is to make his imagery beautiful rather than shallowly exciting. To view examples of my work please view my blog markcarrolphotography.blogspot.com

Photography, I find, is so much bigger than people imagine. Being interested in photography theory, documentary and photojournalism I want to study the impact of photography on life. Taking inspiration from theoretical writers I have applied theory to my work for this exhibition; with the aim of making viewers question what they are seeing or what they think about the work. Being a Ba(hons) student I am at the beginning of a journey within a photographic career. I hope that, one day, my work may be an inspiration to future students and others interested in photography.

My name is Larissa Howe and for 5 and half years I have been studying photography. I took a national diploma in photography at college for 2 years; towards the end of the course I realized I wanted to keep up this career and advance my knowledge and skills in higher education. In doing this I have covered different genres such as portraits still life and many more. For me photography isn’t just about capturing the moment it’s treasuring the beauty you can see, exploring different ideas and making art. It challenges our creativeness and our opinions whether it’s for commercial or non commercial use.

My name is Lauren Freeman and I'm an ice hockey enthusiast and general all round liker of sport. You always see photos of players during the game but hardly any portraits of them, apart from the team head shots. My project came from an idea I had at the first hockey team I photographed for but I never got to put this idea into practice so when the opportunity arose, I decided to develop the idea into the pictures used in the exhibition. I also have a blog: http://coldasice44.blogspot.com/

My name is Kenny Partington. I am a disabled photographer with over thirty years experience behind the camera. My primary subject used to be landscape photography and this I did for many years until a serious road accident forced me to quit photography for nearly ten years. Four years ago I felt the need to return to my love of photography and so I enrolled at Bolton College and did the NCFE courses in photography. After graduating, I applied for and was accepted to Bolton University for the Ba. Honours degree course in photography. However, because of the nature of my disability I was forced to change the kinds of images I was shooting and so went for studio, still life and advertising photography. Photography is such a subjective and creative genre and its path takes us on a journey of both self discovery and creativity. I take the journey because I firmly believe that one day I will take my wow image and until I do each image I do take will enable me to become a better photographer.

My name is Daniel Garside and I was born, raised and now work out of Manchester, England. I am an 'otherly-abled' photographer and use a wheelchair. I have always adamantly refused to allow this to impede the quality of my work and it certainly never does. I accept no limitations in life or in my work. The work I'm exhibiting this year deals with the miniaturized landscape which brings about discussion on consumption, rights to ownership and how photography miniaturizes in all but a few instances. I chose to work in traditional media because I believe that this brings further discussion to the subject of landscape which many now consider dead and gone and to have had its day, much as many may think similarly of traditional media. More of my work can be seen at http://www.wheels-photography.co.uk/
